Blog vs Website: What’s the basic Difference?

Many people have websites (for their businesses as well as for personal use) and many people have blogs. The issue is whether people truly understand the difference between a website and a blog. They certainly are not the same thing.

The first question that arises to many of them is what exactly a website is and what is a blog? Many of them tend to confuse one with the other and interpret an answer of their own will. So, let’s just clear the air and reveal the difference between a blog and a website.

The basic difference between a blog and a website is theoretically the difference in how data is being presented – the format. Apart from that, in practicality there is a fine line between a blog and a website, not much to ponder about however. There is some key differences between them and the=is should clarify as to what you should go with for creating and publishing your content.

What is a Blog ?

blog

A blog, continuously supplying potential customers and existing customers with interesting and useful content, and the blog enables them to communicate with Blogger and potentially overlook the possibility of discussing with them. Not only can you and your customers have discussions, but they can also ask questions you can answer.

Also, a blog provides a dimension for content that you can not get from your website content. Through your continuous and regular blog content, you will eventually be considered as a subject matter expert in your niche and people will come to you for reply. This will boost more and more discussions. A blog can be easily started with services like WordPress, Blogger, etc. and do not need you to start something from the scratch, providing you with the entire system including design templates.

What is actually being done in this case is that relations are being developed and strengthened. Some of the people you chat with on your blog will never be your customers. It is perfectly acceptable. They can talk to you as much as you want and do not have to worry about the pressure to buy anything. One very important fact is that the people you communicate with want to know you as a person, which includes your level of integrity, what you are doing, and your knowledge, your knowledge Passion is involved.

There are many useful features in the blog which are very helpful in promoting interactivity. The blog enables visitors to subscribe to them so that they can get updates on a very regular basis. When adding new content, they will always be informed or have some updates in their social media profiles with the people they talk to.

To be really effective, the blog should have at least one or two new postings a week. Fresh, original ingredients are very important. Content really attracts and retains people and many of them will eventually become customers.

The true purpose of the blog is to provide useful, valuable, informative and interesting content that helps other people and they find interesting. The aim of a blog is not to advertise or sell on anyone. If you try to use your blog in this way, then you will be very disappointed with the results. You will not be able to build relationships with anyone and you will not be able to sell the most. People do not buy from people they do not trust. The only way is that they will trust you if they know you.

Basic identification of Blogs:

  • A chronological listing of blog posts.
  • A commenting system that invites readers to participate in the communication and leave behind comments.
  • Blog posts are archived by date, category, author, tags and sub-categories.
  • RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds for posts and/or comments for feed-readers like Feedly, etc.

What is a Website ?

website

A good way to think about a website is in terms of it being a virtual store that sells products and/or services. A website is the perfect forum to self-promote and advertise. Promotion and buying and selling are exactly what people expect when they visit a website. When they are at the point of making a purchase of some kind, they go to a website that will satisfy their needs.

They can either purchase something online directly from your website or they can use your website to find out exactly where your bricks and mortar store is located so that they can come and purchase products and/or services from you in person. Once a customer has bought something from you, there is a very high likelihood that they will not return to your store again.

It is also basically impossible to build relationships with your potential customers and existing customers on your website because the website is static. Once a person has purchased something from you, there is no potential for interactivity so the relationship will never have a chance to develop and grow.

Basic identification of a website:

  • A homepage that displays content from several sections of internal website pages.
  • A design portfolio of work.
  • A blog might be a part of a website, but not the only thing.
  • A Frequently asked questions page that readers can browse to get more information.
  • A page of client testimonials and feedback.
  • Company’s terms and privacy statements pages.
  • A Contact form that allows visitors to get in touch.
  • A services/products page that displays what they have to offer for the visitors.

The following explains the basic differences between a blog and a website:

Website

  • Content is static.
  • Formal/professional.
  • Interactivity does not exist. There is only one-way communication.
  • Transactional.
  • Communication about products and/or services.
  • Almost everyone has a website. In fact, it is almost a requirement in business today.

Blog

  • Content is regularly updated.
  • Not formal.
  • Interactive.
  • Informative and educational.
  • Interactivity about industry/customer issues.
  • Some people have a blog.

All in one

One approach that has proven very effective is building your website with blog software, such as WordPress. Blog software has the capability of providing you with both static web pages (pages) and blog pages (posts). Since both are necessary for the success of your online exposure, this allows you to design a web presence that contains a traditional website and a blog using one tool. Among the other benefits are:

  • One homogenous look and feel.
  • Ease of optimization for SEO.
  • Sharing of add-on plugins between the pages and posts.
  • Ease and speed of designing and developing the web presence.
  • Ease of maintenance and updating of content since the entire web infrastructure is based on a content management system (CMS).

Do you need a blog or a Website?

What you exactly want is what you need. Firstly, decide what do you exactly intend to do? If you are more concerned with creating content on a regular basis for others to read, you should go with a blog.

If you want a full featured online portal with many abilities and infinitesimal possibilities, you should go with a website. If you have a company, then too you must have a website combined with a blog. But make sure you know a good deal of coding before you jump in for making a website or shell out a little money and outsource the coding work. One thing which you should know that most popular blogging platform ‘WordPress’ can always be use as a Website, and you will get advantage of SEO and easy management.

All Apples are Fruits, But all Fruits are not apples.

All Blogs are Websites, But all Websites are not Blogs.

NOTE: Please don’t ask which is the easiest way to make money. Because there is none. It takes a lot of patience, persistence and hard work to make money on the internet.
