The construction of a Hyperloop commercial runway, as well as an innovation and experience center in Abu Dhabi, will probably begin in the third quarter of 2019.
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies announced on Wednesday the appointment of design and engineering firm Dar Al-Handasah to help make Abu Dhabi’s commercial system a reality.
Earlier this year, HyperloopTT signed an MoU with Aldar Properties, which will allow the creation of a new HyperloopTT center that includes a large-scale commercial Hyperloop system, an XO square Innovation Center and a Hyperloop Experience Center. The proposed site within the Aldar Sedar Al Sderieh land bank is also conveniently located on the border of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, near the Expo 2020 site and the Al Maktoum International Airport.
“We are providing the future of rapid transport technology to all those living in the UAE,” said HyperloopTT President Bibop Gresta, “Today’s announcement is a testament to the continued commitment and determination of all our partners, both within of the UAE as well as abroad. “We move forward with the system. We invite other organizations interested in the region and around the world to join us in making history. ”
HyperloopTT signed a contract with Abu Dhabi’s state-controlled Aldar Properties in April to build a 10 kilometer track near the border with Dubai.
It previously signed a contract with Abu Dhabi’s municipal affairs and transport department in 2016 for a feasibility study to connect Abu Dhabi city with Al Ain along the Oman border.
“With today’s announcement of the appointment of Dar Al-Handasah, Perkins and Wills, and Currie and Brown, we have achieved a significant milestone towards the construction of the world’s first Hyperloop commercial system in Alghadeer,” said HyperloopTT CEO Dirk Ahlborn . “We look forward to working with all of our regional interest groups to build this historic piece of transportation infrastructure.”
